Announcement on the revision of the "MOTORCYCLES-FOUR-STROKE CYCLE GASOLINE ENGINE OILS(JASO T 903)IMPLEMENTATION MANUAL"(2023. 5) We would like to inform you that the JASO engine oil standard implementation panel revised the on-file standard implementation manual according to the revision of " MOTORCYCLES-FOUR-STROKE CYCLE GASOLINE ENGINE Oil Standard (JASO T 903:2023)". The significant changes in Standard and Application manual of the latest revision include: (1) The changes of engine oil performance classification criteria : As for the API standards documented in SAE J183, SG, SH standards were deleted, and SN PLUS, SP standards have been newly added. In addition, the ILSAC and ACEA standards were deleted from the applicable engine oil specification categories because there was no record of T903:2016 on-file list. (2) The revision of physicochemical properties : Through the investigation of T903:2016 on-file oils listed in October 2019, the phosphorus specification has been changed from 0.08-0.12% to 0.08-0.10%. In addition, the specification of evaporation loss has been changed from 20 mass% or less to 15 mass% or less, which is equivalent to other standards. (3) The revision of the “Reference oil”, “Friction plate” and “Performance classification according to friction property indices” : Since the manufacturer raised the supply issue of the reference oil (JAFRE-B16) used in the standard, alternative reference oil was investigated. After the study, an alternative reference oil ( JAFRE-B23) was selected in consideration of future availability and friction properties. Moreover, since the friction plates used for the evaluation test were in limited supply, a modified alternative plat was selected for enhancing availability. In accordance with the changes in the friction plate and reference oil (described above) for this test, the index performance criteria were also revised. Announcement on the revision of a part about " MOTORCYCLES-FOUR-STROKE CYCLE GASOLINE ENGINE OILS(JASO T 903:2016) Application manual"(2018.12) We would like to inform you that the JASO engine oil standard implementation panel revised the on-file standard implementation manual. The points of the revision are as follows. (1) Taking over of the company code by a merger or brand succession will be accepted.(This 2016 edition's rule shall be applied to the 2011 edition's on-filed oils, too.) (2) The test number of the test method(ASTM and JIS) was adjusted with the newest standard. The significant changes in Standard and Application manual of the latest revision include: (1) The changes of engine oil performance classification criteria It was pointed out that, in some cases, the evaluation results of friction characteristics differed before and after the 2011 revision. Thus the test conditions for the friction characteristic test were reviewed and changed. (2) The addition of the reporting of molybdenum content in elemental analysis In the reporting of elemental analysis, molybdenum content was not indispensable until now. The significant changes in Standard and Application manual of the latest revision include: (1) The changes of engine oil performance classification criteria Based on changes made to the engine oil performance classification criteria for friction indices resulting from the replacement of reference oils and test materials for friction and steel plates, the JASO Motorcycle Four-Cycle Oil Standard was updated. For simplicity, JASO T 904 was merged into JASO T 903:2011 as Annex A.
